Educational inequalities remain one of the most pressing challenges facing schools across Europe. Understanding how these inequalities emerge, evolve, and affect students over time is essential for developing effective responses. This is precisely the mission of LINEup (Longitudinal Data for INequalities in Education), a Horizon Europe-funded research project that brings together universities, research centres, and educational organisations from six European countries.
LINEup focuses on understanding educational inequalities through the use of data, with a particular emphasis on longitudinal data that allows researchers to follow students’ educational trajectories over time. By combining large-scale longitudinal datasets with field research conducted directly in schools, the project seeks to identify the factors that contribute to unequal educational outcomes and generate evidence-based recommendations to support more inclusive and equitable education systems.
Introducing the LINEup Schools Network
To ensure that research findings translate into meaningful improvements in educational practice, the project has established the LINEup Schools Network: a European community of schools committed to understanding, preventing, and reducing educational inequalities through collaboration, peer learning, and evidence-informed school development.
The Network brings together schools, school leaders, teachers, and educational stakeholders interested in using data and evidence more effectively to better understand the challenges faced by their students, strengthen inclusive practices, and improve educational outcomes for all learners.
More than simply an online platform, the LINEup Schools Network is a long-term community of practice designed to continue beyond the duration of the project itself, fostering sustainable cooperation among schools across Europe around the shared goal of educational equity.
Why Join?
Participation in the Network is free of charge and offers schools access to a wide range of opportunities, including:
- International collaboration and peer learning with schools from different European countries
- Capacity-building activities focused on educational innovation, school improvement, and internationalisation
- Training on data literacy and evidence-informed decision-making, helping schools make better use of data to identify challenges, monitor progress, and support student success
- Opportunities to learn how educational data, including longitudinal data, can be used to better understand patterns of inequality and inform school development strategies
- Open Educational Resources (OERs), practical tools, learning scenarios, and case studies developed through European projects
- Workshops and webinars on educational inequalities, inclusive education, data-informed practices, and school development
- Support for Erasmus+ participation, including guidance on Small-scale and Cooperation Partnerships (KA2) and opportunities to connect with potential project partners
Through these activities, schools can strengthen their institutional capacity, enhance professional development opportunities for staff, and develop a deeper understanding of how evidence and data can support more equitable educational outcomes.
A Collaborative Space for Schools
Members of the Network gain access to a dedicated Moodle platform, serving as the Network’s online collaboration hub. Here, schools can access resources, participate in training activities, connect with European peers, stay up to date about upcoming professional exchange and networking opportunities.
The platform is designed to support continuous collaboration and ensure that the knowledge and resources developed through LINEup remain accessible and useful well beyond the project’s lifetime.
